Tourism authority says will recall proposal for 400 free air tickets

Must read

HCMC – A document proposing that three local airlines provide the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism with 400 free air tickets was inappropriate and will be recalled, Nguyen Le Phuc, deputy head of the administration, told a press briefing on June 4.

Speaking at the press conference, the representative of the administration also asked for compassion from Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air and Bamboo Airways.

Phuc said that the nature of Document 167 sent to the three airlines on June 2 was only a basis to put into action certain agreements which had been reached by the administration and the three carriers, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

As planned, in the second half of 2020, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism will organize a series of programs in many localities in collaboration with the local airlines.

Under pressure to boost the growth of domestic tourism, the administration issued the document, Phuc noted, adding that in terms of its content and form, the document was unsuitable.

Over the past few years, the administration has closely cooperated with local airlines to roll out various tourism promotion programs in Vietnam and foreign countries, stated Phuc.

In 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the cooperation between the administration and the local air carriers will focus on the local tourism market.

Nguyen Thai Binh, head of the office of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that Deputy Minister Le Quang Tung had ordered the administration to recall the document that sparked a strong public uproar and asked the individuals concerned to practice self-criticism.

The ministry evaluated that the document was unsuitable, unnecessary and worthless, as the two sides had previously signed cooperation agreements, Binh noted.
