HCMC – Members of the national steering committee for Covid-19 prevention and control at a meeting on August 14 agreed that it would be most important to call on residents to strictly comply with Covid-19 infection prevention and control measures.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and other relevant agencies should focus on controlling outbreaks in localities hit by the virus, especially Danang and Quang Nam, according to the meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, who also serves as head of the committee.

It is necessary to continue enhancing efforts to treat Covid-19 patients in the two localities, according to the members.

The Ministry of Public Security was told to team up with the ministries of National Defense and Foreign Affairs to tighten control over the entry of foreigners into Vietnam for work to prevent the potential spread of Covid-19, VietnamPlus news site reported.

Apart from this, the members of the committee have advised residents to stay at home and only go out when necessary, keep a safe physical distance from others, wear face masks in public and regularly wash their hands with soap or sanitizer.

Following these measures is their responsibility to their families, the community and the country, noted Acting Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long.

Harsh sanctions will be imposed on individuals who repeatedly violate regulations on Covid-19 infection prevention and control.

The national steering committee also told local media agencies and many social organizations to urge residents to stay alert over the spread of the virus.

The decision to begin social distancing in Hai Duong City from August 14 is a timely, right and drastic move, Long remarked, adding that the ministry will support the city with contact tracing and help it lock down Covid-19-hit areas and weed out Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.

Apart from this, the ministry is cooperating with Hai Duong Province to quickly restore Covid-19 testing systems at some facilities in the locality to conduct large-scale tests, with some 1,500 samples set to be tested each day.

Furthermore, the ministry is also urging other localities to take samples for massive Covid-19 testing. The country is expected to bring the disease under control in late August.
