Resumption date of int’l air services remains unknown

HCMC – The exact date for the resumption of international air services remains unknown, as ministries have yet to thrash out entry requirements, Covid-19 testing and quarantine procedures for individual arrivals, according to a Transport Ministry representative.

Besides this, cities and provinces, especially the nation’s two biggest cities — HCMC and Hanoi, have not been able to estimate the number of possible arrivals to set up appropriate quarantine facilities and issue Covid-19 monitoring guidelines, reported VnExpress news website.

Accordingly, the country will not resume services on international air routes starting September 15 as previously proposed by the Transport Ministry, the representative said.

The Health Ministry’s plans to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus for arriving passengers are expected to be submitted to the national steering for Covid-19 infection prevention and control on September 17, following which the Transport Ministry will announce the date for the resumption of international flights.

At a Government meeting last week, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc approved a plan to resume international flights and ordered the two ministries to closely cooperate to contain the spread of Covid-19 on flights.

The flights will serve foreign diplomats, officials, experts and Vietnamese citizens living or working abroad. Air services for tourists are yet to begin. All passengers have to pay for their Covid-19 tests and quarantine and install the Health Ministry’s health declaration mobile app.
