HCMC – The owner of a residential area in Quang Nam Province’s Dien Ban Town could be subject to the highest administrative fine for allowing 21 Chinese immigrants who did not possess personal identity documents to stay and ran away after being approached for an inspection by the local authorities.

Nguyen Thanh Long, deputy director of the provincial Police Department, said that as of July 20, the provincial police are investigating the case associated with these Chinese citizens.

Tran Uc, chairman of Dien Ban, told Tuoi Tre Online that the Dien Ban police are preparing adequate dossiers and will submit them to the town-level government for approval to levy hefty fines on the residence owner.

According to an immigration official of the province, these Chinese citizens entered Vietnam illegally, but it is still unclear how they entered the country. The police will investigate further to figure it out.

Nguyen Van Hai, director of the provincial Health Department, said these 21 persons tested negative for Covid-19 once. The health authority will monitor them to promptly take further steps if any of them is found to have contracted the novel coronavirus.
