HCMC – Officials who become National Assembly (NA) deputies must be talented and virtuous enough to represent the people at the NA and the People’s Councils at all levels, said Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong.
At a national conference on January 21 to discuss plans to elect deputies of the 15th NA and the People’s Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 tenure, Trong said the election is an activity of the entire political system under the leadership of the Party, the local media reported.
He affirmed that the Executive Board of the Party Central Committee, the NA, the Government and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee had realized the importance of the election and considered it an important political mission this year.
The Politburo on June 20 last year issued Directive 45, asking the entire political system to enhance the unity and cooperation and mobilize resources to prepare for the election. In addition, the relevant bodies have issued directives, resolutions and decisions guiding the implementation of the election in line with the requirements, regulations and planned progress.
At the conference, Pham Minh Chinh, head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Organization, said under the commission’s directions, candidates who do not deserve their positions and those who bribe to gain power will be rejected.
Besides the requirements for NA deputies as stated in the Law on the NA Organization, the commission required that candidates must not have any hunger for power and not have a backward and stagnant mind, must not be under investigation and inspection or be leaders of agencies and organizations involved in cases of corruption and wastefulness.
As for the age of candidates, Chinh said female officials running for the NA deputy post for the first time must be born in January 1971 or be younger and male candidates must be born in February 1966 or be younger.
