HCMC – Over 340 Vietnamese citizens from the United States were brought home from San Francisco International Airport via Vietnam Airlines flights on June 7 and 8, which were jointly arranged by Vietnamese authorities, Vietnamese representative offices in the U.S., Vietnam Airlines and U.S. authorities.

According to Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, most of the passengers are students under 18 years of age, elderly people, workers and those in special circumstances. All the travelers underwent health checks and were sent to quarantine centers upon their arrival at the Hanoi-based Noi Bai airport.

Following the prime minister’s directive, more repatriation flights to take Vietnamese citizens home will be operated depending on the development of the coronavirus pandemic at home and abroad, the needs of citizens to return home and local quarantine capacity.

On May 8, Vietnam arranged a flight operated by Vietnam Airlines to bring home 343 Vietnamese citizens from San Francisco. The flight landed at Van Don airport in the northern province of Quang Ninh.
