Number of new Covid-19 infections rises by 104

HCMC – The Covid-19 pandemic is still raging in many parts of Vietnam as 103 more domestic infections were reported this evening, June 12, raising the single-day spike to 259 locally-infected cases, according to the Ministry of Health.

Among the 103 locally-infected cases, HCMC accounted for 44 cases, Bac Giang Province 41 cases, Bac Ninh Province 16 cases, and Ha Tinh two cases. Of them, 101 patients were detected in quarantine centers or areas under lockdown.

Besides, one imported case was placed in quarantine after he arrived in the Mekong Delta province of Long An.

Also in the day, 23 coronavirus patients were declared free of the disease and were discharged from hospital.

In related news, the HCMC Hospital for Tropical Diseases in HCMC’s District 5 was put under lockdown this afternoon to combat Covid-19, after three employees of the hospital became suspected coronavirus cases.

According to the municipal Health Department, the hospital will maintain its previously assigned tasks of performing Covid-19 tests and providing medical treatment to coronavirus patients during the lockdown period. The Cu Chi Covid-19 treatment hospital in the outlying district of the same name and a unit of Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital will share the task of treating coronavirus patients with the hospital.

The Cu Chi Covid-19 treatment hospital was scheduled to be put into service this afternoon, with 500 beds, and the unit of Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital will be operational tomorrow. These two hospitals will handle coronavirus patients with mild and severe symptoms and receive expertise support from health experts in the city.

Regarding the three suspected cases at the HCMC Hospital for Tropical Diseases, two are IT staff, one works in the hospital’s administrative unit and is the wife of one of the IT staff. The married couple resides in Hoc Moc District, while the other one lives in the Ehome 1 residential building in Binh Tan District, according to the HCMC Center for Disease Control (HCDC).

The health authority was implementing anti-virus measures at their workplace and residences. According to preliminary evaluation, these suspected cases might not have close contact with patients in the hospital, as their jobs are related to paperworks. Medical check-ups and treatment activities at the hospital will remain normal during the lockdown.
