HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, July 21, confirmed 2,570 fresh Covid-19 cases, including two imported cases and 2,568 domestic infections in 24 provinces and cities. HCMC alone reported 1,817 cases, taking the city’s caseload to 41,343 in the current fourth coronavirus wave, which began in late April.
Binh Duong came second with 307 infections, followed by Dong Thap with 109, Dong Nai with 85, Long An with 52, Hanoi with 38 and Tay Ninh with 30. In addition, 17 other provinces and cities detected one to 22 new cases.
The new infections took the country’s case number of the day to 5,357, with 3,556 cases in HCMC and 964 in Binh Duong Province.
This is the fourth straight day that the total number of new infections in a single day has exceeded 4,000.
As of today, Vietnam’s Covid-19 tally had reached 68,117, including 64,508 domestic cases recorded in the current wave.
As many as 528 patients were announced to have recovered from Covid-19 today, sending the country’s total number of recoveries to 11,971.
Besides, the ministry this afternoon reported 36 more Covid-19 fatalities in the period between July 17 and 20, with all of them suffering from serious underlying health conditions.
HCMC reported the highest number of Covid-19 deaths, 32, while Long An and Dong Thap had two each. These Covid-19 fatalities raised the country’s death toll to 370.
In related news, HCMC will start the fifth phase of the Covid-19 vaccination tomorrow, July 22, at 615 vaccination sites. Some 930,000 doses will be administered within two or three weeks.
During the vaccination drive, the city will prioritize inoculating people aged over 65, low-income people, policy beneficiaries, those suffering from underlying health conditions and receiving treatment at hospitals, medical workers and frontline workers.
As of 2.00 p.m. today, HCMC saw over 3,000 sites put under lockdown, with 500 sites in Thu Duc City and 313 others in District 8.
