Hanoi steps up fines against social distancing violators

HCMC – Hanoi City’s authorities have announced penalties for people violating the social distancing order, with large gatherings at public places subject to fines between VND10 million and VND20 million.

The municipal Department of Justice on April 4 released a document stipulating administrative fines for a number of violations related to Covid-19 prevention and control, Tuoi Tre Online reported.

According to the document, people in the capital city who do not wear face masks in public will be fined maximum VND300,000. Notably, they may be fined up to VND5 million for littering used face masks, and up to VND7 million for disposing them on streets or pavements.

Besides this, people concealing Covid-19 infection situation of them or others may be fined up to VND2 million. Eateries that fail to suspend operations are subject to maximum fines at VND10 million for an individual and VND20 million for an organization.

Notably, organizations and individuals that fail to comply with the requested suspension of business operations and restrictions on large gatherings are subject to maximum fines of VND20 million and VND10 million, respectively.

People that fail to comply with quarantine and treatment regulations upon entering or returning from disease-hit areas will be fined up to VND20 million.

Further, people who are subject to mandatory isolation but fail to do so will be fined up to VND10 million. Criminal proceedings can be launched against individuals who show signs of criminal violations in dodging quarantine.

People who spread false information and fake news that cause public confusion, commit commercial frauds, hoard essential items such as face masks and hand sanitizer, or illegally raise prices of goods during the Covid-19 epidemic will also be punished as per regulations.
