HCMC – The central province of Phu Yen announced three more Covid-19 deaths this morning, August 10, with one of them being a five-year-old child.

According to the provincial anti-Covid steering committee, the child, who was residing in the province’s Tuy Hoa City, was hospitalized at 5 p.m. on August 8 and was pronounced dead at 7:30 a.m. the following day. The kid had an underlying medical condition.

The other two deceased were also residents of Tuy Hoa, aged 68 and 70. They suffered from underlying medical problems as well.

In the morning, the steering committee also reported 36 more cases, raising the province’s tally since June 23 to 1,958. Among them, 1,083 have fully recovered, while 17 others have died.

Of the 858 active cases, 10 are critically ill and on ventilators, while 14 others have severe pneumonia.

Tuy Hoa City is a large coronavirus hotspot in the province, with 1,058 infections reported.

Given the number of new cases mostly found in areas on lockdown, Tran Huu The, chairman of the provincial government, asked the local authorities, especially Tuy Hoa City, to strictly implement the stay-at-home mandate under the prime minister’s Directive 16.

They have to work harder to closely monitor locked down areas and tackle violators of anti-virus regulations, the chairman added.
