Danang to transport stranded people back home by train

Must read

DANANG – In a proposal recently sent to the Prime Minister, the Danang City People’s Committee highlighted that some 8,500 workers and students need to be transported back to their hometowns by train and suggested that the Ministry of Transport be roped in to help set up the plan.

The letter pointed out that a large number of workers and students were stranded after all means of transport going to and from Danang were stopped from July 28, 2020.

As such, the city suggested that the Prime Minister should direct the Ministry of Transport to open a number of train routes to transport these people back home, while cities and provinces should have plans in place to receive their local citizens, in line with safety requirements.

According to a recent survey by the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, the Department of Construction, the Department of Health and other agencies, more than 2,000 workers and 6,500 students are waiting to return home following financial difficulties as a result of being quarantined. The final figure could be higher once there is an official plan from the Ministry of Transport.

Danang’s leaders are also working with developers of construction sites around the city who are responsible for donating necessities and providing accommodation for their workers while they wait to be transported back home.

In another development, the Danang Government will provide five kilos of rice every 14 days to each person in need in isolation areas in addition to food and other basic necessities worth VND40,000 a day.

Moreover, 15 kilos of rice on a monthly basis as well as food and other necessities will be donated to each person from the community who is facing difficulties, set to be executed by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Danang City.
